These are without a doubt - super strong. I am using them to hang my broom and "Swiffer" sweeper to the side of our second fridge in our laundry/utility room and it works great. I didn't have room on a wall for a wall hook and was tired of everything falling over. I have one point of advice and only one minor complaint. Read the paper included in the package. I accidentally got the magnets stuck together (even after reading it) - so when you separate them - move them far away from each other or they will want to pull back together immediately. That is not my complaint though - that just proves how strong they were since it was a challenge to separate them. My complaint is that the instructions say "need a strong man to complete" (when pulling them apart if they get stuck together). I laughed because I'm assuming that's a joke. I am not a strong man. I am a small woman who managed to slide them apart on my own. It just requires a little physics, patients and some elbow grease (of course). Who knows - maybe my hands are stronger then I thought after taking care of two little kids and carrying them all the time. Or maybe working a desk job and typing on a computer all day is great exercise after all! I am woman - hear me roar. LOL. Aside from that - the product works great.
This is my second order of these. They work really well on my stainless steel backsplash. Strong and well designed rotating hooks. CAUTION: Do not allow them to make direct contact with each other. Exactly as stated in the instruction (which I only read after it was too late) once they are locked face-to-face, they are extremely difficult to separate. I could not pull them apart without concern about damaging the hooks. Ultimately, I was able to rotate and slide rotate them apart by hand. Instructions attached for your reference.
The neodymium magnets in these hooks are very strong and they perform as advertised. But READ THE SELLER'S CAUTIONS before buying.The 30 lb rating is for a vertical pull, meaning that the hook is hanging vertically from a horizontal surface. If the hook is attached to a vertical surface, it can support much less weight.Why do you think this is? There are several reasons.First, the hook is being pulled downward along the vertical surface, but it's maximum adhesion power is perpendicular to the surface. This will tend to rotate the hook away from the surface.Beyond that, there are other reasons that the hooks may not appear to adhere as well as one might think. Magnets are attracted to ferrous materials, such as iron. The reason that the magnets adhere to steel surfaces is because of the iron in the steel. Steel is, after all, a composite of several metals, not just iron. Some steel varieties have far less iron in them than others and the hooks will have weaker adherence to these types of steel.In fact, I'd go so far to say that the 30 lb vertical rating on these hooks is likely to be valid only for an iron surface.Got it so far, 1- and 2- star reviewers?There are different grades of steel, some of which contain more or less iron. The less iron in the particular grade of steel in your range hood, file cabinet or cruise cabin wall, the less well that the hooks will adhere.But that's not all.Most modern surfaces are either painted or sheathed with plastic or some other material. Separating the magnet of the hook from the metal with a layer of paint, enamel, plastic or paper in between reduces the adhesion force. Said differently, no matter what is put between the hook and the raw steel, if there is a layer there, the magnet of the hook will not adhere as well. The thicker the layer, the less adhesion.Mr. and Mrs. 1- and 2- star, are you still out there? Yes, there is even still more.If you use one of these hooks on a vertical surface, the coating on the surface can have more or less friction. Some surfaces are very slick. The hook will have a greater tendency to slide down a slick surface than it will on a higher-friction surface. Consider the extreme: take oil or grease and coat the metal surface, then stick the hook to it. Now the hook will easily slide downward and will support hardly any weight. The point is that the nature of the surface that the hook is adhered to is very important.Get it? It's abundantly obvious that the 1- and 2- star reviewers are almost exclusively people who have no notion of these concepts. I'm writing this because they have unfairly downgraded this product which works just as advertised.It's a good product. I'd buy it again.
There must be a lot of fake reviews for this product.Based upon the product description of "1/3 less force when used in a vertical (shear) application", that would be 20 pounds of force.Well, I tried these on 2 refrigerators (standard textured finish) and a stamped steel residential exterior door (smooth finish), and these magnets MIGHT hold 2 pounds before slipping. Yes, the force required for separation if these are pulled perpendicular to the surface is much higher.The product description also mentions 10mm thick steel, so there is little resemblance to most stamped steel objects within a typical home or office (unless you have 10mm steel walls :) ) because 10mm is roughly equal to 3/8 inch.They are nicely made, but they certainly lack 20 pounds of force in a shear application on any commonly manufactured stamped steel item that I have.
